Adversity Demi Faced
On October 30, 2010 Lovato withdrew from the Jonas Brothers Live
in concert to enter a facility to confront ‘physical and emotional issues’.
Reports say that she decided to enter treatment after punching a female back-up
dancer during a confrontation. On January 28, 2011, Lovato completed inpatient
treatment treatment at the Timberline Knolls facility and returned home to Los
Angeles, where she would continue to visit doctors on a daily basis to help her
work on the issues she confronted in treatment. Lovato later acknowledged having
suffered bulimia, self-injury and self-medicating with drugs and alcohol which
stated as teenager behaviour. Lovato also said that she had a “nervous
break-down” and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder during treatment. In April
Demi became an editor for ‘Seventeen Magazine’ where she discussed her struggles
and directed towards teenage girls.
During this time Demi also made a departure from her TV series
from ‘Sonny with a Chance’ effectively putting her acting career to a stop and
ending the series. Demi commented "it's kind of sad for me that a chapter of my
life has ended but there couldn't be a better time for me to move on...I don't
think going back to Sonny would be healthy for my recovery...Being in
front of a camera would make me nervous." She then later stared in another show
“So Random” but the show only lasted one season.
On 23rd of December 2011, Lovavto posted a message on twitter criticizing the
Disney Channel for airing episodes of ‘Shake It Up’ and ‘So Random’ which featured
many characters making jokes about eating disorders. Disney Channel immediately
took action and apologized to Demi, the removed the episodes from the networks airing
cycle. In January 2013 it was reported that demi was attending a ‘sober living facility’
in Los Angeles for more than a year even during the time that she served as a
judge on ‘The X Factor’. She decided this amongst herself and moved there shorty
after being released from rehab in 2011 because she felt it was the best way to
keep from returning to her addictions and bad eating habits.
